Japanese and Korean chip stocks rose sharply, triggering circuit breakers in the Korean KOSPI index
The AI industry chain boom has driven the rise of Japanese and Korean chip stocks, with SK Hynix rising more than 9% and Samsung Electronics rising more than 6%, driving the Korean KOSPI index to rise more than 6%. The Korean exchange has launched the Sidecar mechanism to suspend programmatic buying. The Nikkei 225 index in Japan rose by about 1.7%, Kaixia rose by over 8%, Rohm Semiconductor rose by over 4%, and SoftBank Group rose by over 3%. The Philadelphia Semiconductor Index of the US stock market closed up 5.21%, with Intel and AMD up over 8%, Arm up over 7%, TSMC ADR up over 5%, SanDisk up over 14%, SK Hynix ADR up over 13%, Micron Technology and Western Digital up over 12%.
